FAQ

What does our school council do?

Our mission states that school council will support parent involvement and community partnerships within the school in a collaborative, inclusive, and positive manner, to enhance student learning and school effectiveness.  The council will do this by providing a vehicle for communication and encouraging collaboration among home, school, and community.

What are our Goals?

  1. To engage parents and support parent involvement and community partnerships to support student achievement.
  2.  To run a successful series of fundraisers to support resources that work towards improving student achievement.

How can you help or get involved?

There are lots of ways to be involved in school council.  For example:

  • Attend meetings once a month and become a voting member
  • Volunteer your time to help with special events and projects
  • Join us at meetings to discuss issues that you are interested in

What has council helped to support in the past?

  • - Thanksgiving Turkey dinner
  • - Classroom supplies
  • - Smartboard projector arms and technology support
  • - Playground sand/maintenance
  • - Sport jerseys
  • - Wellness themed books
  • - Musical instruments (i.e. ukuleles, djembes, percussion instruments)
  • - Love 2 Groove dance facilitator
  • - Musical performers (i.e. song writer’s workshops)
  • - Student transportation for field trips
  • - Outdoor play initiatives (i.e. school garden, loose parts play, outdoor toys)
  • - Eco Club (i.e. composters)

Can I specify where my donation will be spent?

Yes, you can donate to a specific department (I.e. music/sports/transportation) or item(s) found in the RV 'wish list (annually updated by November)

Why does school council fundraise for classroom supplies?

Teachers request a small amount annually to offset the cost of purchasing items to enhance classroom activities and celebrations.

Why does school council fundraise for student transportation?

Money raised by Council for student transportation goes toward the cost of busing for year end field trips that are NOT covered by the school's transportation budget. The goal of council is to offset the entire cost of busing for field trips to make these trips accessible for all students. This year, fundraising efforts are directed toward technology support.

On behalf of the Rideau Vista School Council and Rideau Vista Public School, we wish to extend our sincerest thanks to all of the members of the community (far and wide) who support our work!
